My journey with ovarian cyst

September  is Pcos awareness month so I thought about sharing my journey on dealing with ovarian cyst for more than 10 years now
It all began in my teen years I went from being a relatively healthy teenager to being in constant uncontrollable pain
For years I had painful periods and heavy bleeding I was told it’s normal it runs in the family and funny enough the majority if women in my family from my mother’s side has been diagnosed with ovarian cyst .
The symptoms that I’ve experienced is
1. Hair and weight loss
2. Fatigue
3. High cholesterol and low iron levels
4. Depression and panic attacks
5. Headaches
6. Dizzy spells
7. Severe moodswings
8. Excruciating pain in my back and legs
Heavy and irregular period
9.Unbearable pain on my left ovary
I couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me but I knew deep down in my gut something is not jelling
So after a few trips to the hospital, visits to different doctors, misdiagnosis twists and turns and almost losing my mind one of my co-workers referred me to her Gynecologist who was about to retire
He did a ultrasound and discovered a 3cm cyst on both my ovaries
I’m forever grateful to him who could finally figure out was wrong with me in Mid August 2013
I was put on hormonal birth control pills for treatment to regulate the hormones and reduce the risk of of developing more cyst which made me feel like a dog most days but luckily made the cyst shrink
There are day’s when I’m in serious pain but still managed to push through the day juggling motherhood and a demanding full time time job to waking up in the middle of the night with Excruciating pain and a puddle of blood and sweat
I’m still dealing with it in my own way with lots of Nurofen and Ibuprofen painkillers,Epsom salt hotbaths, hot water bottles, taking a walk and a big fat chocolate

Funny enough I was told I would never be able to fall pregnant but as Faith would have it I fall pregnant twice after being diagnosed with ovarian cyst my miracle barbies were born in Sep 2014 and June 2017 with both pregnancies I had cyst but they gradually went away as the babies started to grow within me

My hope is that more awareness should be made publicly so many women and girls are still suffering in silence and be misdiagnosed
And I hope a cure could be found
Feel free to comment on any tips to help ease the pain or just a word of encouragement
Stay safe and take care until my next blog post
